
Amsterdam, August 19: India has maintained its dominance over Pakistan in the FIH Hockey World Cup 2026. In a Pool D match held at Wagner Stadium in Amsterdam, the Indian men’s hockey team delivered an impressive performance, defeating Pakistan 5-3.
India started the match with great intensity, controlling the ball effectively. In the fourth minute, the Indian team earned a penalty corner, which captain Harmanpreet Singh converted into a goal. India quickly doubled its lead, with Mandeep Singh scoring from a brilliant pass by Abhishek in the 11th minute. The first quarter ended with India firmly in control at 2-0.
The Indian team continued its strong performance into the second quarter. In the 20th minute, another penalty corner was awarded, and Harmanpreet scored again, extending India’s lead to 3-0. However, Pakistan attempted to make a comeback, with Hannan Shahid scoring their first goal in the 21st minute.
Just two minutes later, Abhishek struck again, pushing India’s lead to 4-1. Pakistan responded with a second goal from Sufiyan Khan in the 24th minute, narrowing the score to 4-2. At the start of the third quarter, India’s Sukjeet Singh received a green card. In the 34th minute, India extended its lead to 5-2, with Hardik Singh scoring from a penalty stroke.
The fourth and final quarter began well for Pakistan, as Hannan Shahid scored again in the 45th minute, bringing the score to 5-3. Both teams made several attempts to score thereafter, but neither succeeded. Under Harmanpreet’s leadership, the Indian team denied Pakistan any further opportunities. With this victory, India secured a place in the next round, while Pakistan’s journey in the World Cup came to an end.
