New Delhi, September 12 (Daily Kiran) : India and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have reiterated their commitment to strengthening their comprehensive strategic partnership. During a meeting held in New Delhi at the 18th BRICS summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Crown Prince Sheikh Khalid bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan agreed to enhance collaboration in emerging areas such as defense, space, nuclear energy, technology, and innovation.
The leaders reviewed the significant progress made in bilateral relations over recent years. They emphasized the importance of continuing to work together on various multilateral platforms, including BRICS, to advance shared interests and priorities. Both nations acknowledged that their partnership is reaching new heights across multiple sectors, including energy, trade, investment, infrastructure, and new technologies.
A key highlight of the discussion was the mention of a proposed integrated greenfield aluminum project in Odisha. This initiative, spearheaded by the UAE’s International Holding Company (IHC) with an investment of $11.5 billion, is expected to be the largest integrated aluminum investment in India’s history.
The leaders noted that this project could play a crucial role in establishing Odisha as a global aluminum manufacturing hub and would serve as a significant example of India-UAE investment cooperation.
They also recognized that the sovereign investment platform, L-Imad, could further deepen investment and economic collaboration between the two countries. Through this platform, long-term strategic investment and development partnerships could gain new momentum.
An official statement highlighted that this meeting reflects the tradition of regular dialogue at the highest leadership level and the enduring continuity of relations between the two nations. Strong political trust, deep economic ties, and an expanding strategic partnership have become defining features of India-UAE relations.
Crown Prince Sheikh Khalid arrived in India to participate in the BRICS summit, which this year focuses on the theme “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation, and Sustainability.”
Notably, leadership-level contacts between the UAE and India have been strengthening. Earlier, on June 16, 2026, Prime Minister Modi met with UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan during the G7 summit in Évian, where they also discussed expanding investment, trade, and strategic cooperation.
