New Delhi, September 12 (Daily Kiran) : The highly anticipated US Open 2026 women’s singles final will take place this Sunday at Arthur Ashe Stadium, featuring world number one Elena Rybakina and second-ranked Aryna Sabalenka. Rybakina has shared insights into her strategy for facing Sabalenka.
In an interview with JioCinema, Rybakina stated, “We know each other quite well and have played against each other many times. The key will be to stay aggressive at crucial moments, rather than waiting for her to dictate points. I need to maintain control during rallies to dominate the match.”
Rybakina reflected on her journey through the tournament, noting that her participation in the US Open was uncertain at first. “In the initial matches, I was preoccupied with my foot and didn’t feel comfortable. Gradually, I shifted my focus to what I was doing wrong on the court and identified areas for improvement. I found my rhythm over time, despite facing tough opponents and some challenging matches. I believe things are starting to go my way, and I hope to perform my best in the final,” she added.
The road to the final has not been easy for Rybakina, who faced physical fatigue during both the quarterfinals and semifinals. However, she reassured herself that she had enough energy to push through.
Regarding the upcoming final, Rybakina emphasized the importance of serving against Sabalenka. “A strong serve can provide a significant advantage,” she noted.
This final will mark the 18th encounter between Rybakina and Sabalenka, with Sabalenka leading their head-to-head record 10-7. Rybakina previously defeated Sabalenka to win the Australian Open earlier this year. While Sabalenka aims to secure her third consecutive US Open title, Rybakina is in pursuit of her first. With both players highly motivated, the final promises to be an exciting showdown.
