Mohammed Shami Celebrates Milestone of 100 First-Class Matches

New Delhi, September 12 (Daily Kiran) : Veteran Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami, currently out of the national team, continues to make his mark in domestic cricket. Recently, he showcased his skills in the Duleep Trophy final, where he played a pivotal role for the East Zone against the South Zone. With this match, Shami celebrated his 100th first-class appearance, a milestone he considers significant.

In a video shared by the BCCI Domestic on X, Shami expressed, “The 100th match is always special, whether you score a century or simply play. It represents a long journey, a significant sacrifice, and a goal in your life.”

He emphasized the pride of playing for his state, taking wickets in various conditions, and fulfilling a dream. “Playing 100 first-class matches and bringing pride to my state is a big deal,” he added.

Shami was just 21 when the East Zone clinched its first Duleep Trophy title in 2012. Now, 14 years later, he is an integral part of their third championship victory.

“This occasion is particularly special because it’s my 100th match coinciding with the Duleep Trophy final. Winning makes it a memorable experience. The last time East Zone won, I was there, and now, years later, I’m still here. Completing the circle with my 100th match and a Duleep Trophy win is truly special,” Shami noted.

The right-arm fast bowler shared that his hunger for wickets and passion for the game remain as strong as ever. “Though years have passed, my desire to run and take wickets is unchanged. The only difference now is my understanding of strategy and execution,” he explained.

Shami reflected on the ups and downs of life and cricket. “Life is full of struggles, pain, relief, laughter, and joy. How you manage these experiences is crucial. It’s about how you spend your free time, maintain your rhythm, and show consistency in the game,” he said.

He concluded, “Passion drives us forward and allows us to perform over the years. I believe being a good fighter is essential, and it’s not that difficult.”

Since the Champions Trophy final in Dubai on March 9, 2025, where India triumphed over New Zealand under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy, Shami has not played for the national team.
