Frances Tiafoe Remains Hopeful After US Open Semi-Final Loss

New York, September 12 (Daily Kiran) : Frances Tiafoe’s dream of winning the US Open faced another setback as he was eliminated in the semi-finals on September 12, 2026. The American tennis player delivered a strong performance but ultimately fell to fellow countryman Ben Shelton. Despite the disappointment, Tiafoe remains optimistic about achieving his goal.

After the match, Tiafoe shared his thoughts, saying, “I hope to win the US Open one day. I just want to win it. It brings tears to my eyes, like that young kid inside me.”

He expressed gratitude for the support from fans, stating, “The love I receive here is incredible. Everyone—the staff, security, and fans—truly wants to see me win. Friends, family, my team, it’s such good energy.”

Tiafoe noted the excitement surrounding his matches, saying, “They are always thrilled to see me play. I feel great being here in New York. Hopefully, one day we will achieve this.”

In the past seven seasons, Tiafoe has reached at least the fourth round at Flushing Meadows six times. He lost in the semi-finals in 2024 to fellow American Taylor Fritz and in 2022 to Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz.

The US Open has been Tiafoe’s most successful Grand Slam event, with all three of his semi-final appearances taking place in New York. He has also reached the quarter-finals at the French Open and Australian Open.

The 2026 US Open final is set to feature Ben Shelton against Alexander Zverev, who secured his place by defeating Karen Khachanov. The match, scheduled for Sunday, promises to be an exciting showdown.
