New Delhi, June 18: Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal stated on Thursday that India serves as an inspiring example for the world. He highlighted that the country’s youthful population, affordable data, growing technological capabilities, and inclusive development approach position India at the forefront of the global technological revolution.
Speaking at VivaTech 2026 about India’s role in the age of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Goyal emphasized that India possesses several natural strengths that enable it to play a crucial role in bridging the global technology gap.
He noted that India adopts technology more rapidly and effectively compared to many countries and views AI as a means of growth rather than a threat.
“India is an inspiring example for the world. Our young and talented population, low data costs, increasing capabilities, and a shared vision for development place us at the forefront of technological advancement,” Goyal said.
The minister stressed that AI can never replace human intelligence, values, culture, and traditions. He pointed out that India’s demographic strength is one of its greatest assets, with an average age of under 30, giving it a significant advantage over other nations.
“Our young population is crucial. With an average age below 30, we are the fastest-growing major economy in the world. This boosts economic activity and accelerates innovation,” Goyal added.
He further mentioned, “We have a vast market of 1.4 billion people, which generates demand and allows us to benefit from economies of scale.”
The minister also stated that India has sufficient power resources to meet the growing needs for data centers and computing infrastructure.
“Data costs in India are significantly lower than in other countries. We have ample electricity available to support data centers, computing capacity, and other technological requirements,” he said.
Goyal highlighted that India produces the highest number of graduates in science, engineering, and technology globally.
“We train the most STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) graduates in the world, who are the backbone of the tech sector,” he noted.
Addressing concerns about the impact of AI on employment, Goyal reassured that technological advancements will not eliminate human roles but will create new opportunities and career options.
He concluded that in the future, AI and human intelligence will work together to drive development and innovation in new directions.
