Hyderabad, August 27: A devastating flood in Nepal has left 22 residents from Telangana unaccounted for. The state government is closely monitoring the situation in Nepal and surrounding areas. They are coordinating efforts through a helpline established at Telangana Bhavan in New Delhi, alongside a helpline operating at the Telangana Secretariat in Hyderabad.
Since the helpline’s launch, approximately 80 to 100 calls have been received from family members and others seeking information and assistance. Preliminary investigations have identified 20 cases involving 23 individuals, with six from Telangana and 17 being NRIs of Telangana origin.
In a positive development, one individual from Ranga Reddy district, who was on the Kailash Mansarovar pilgrimage, has been found safe and has contacted his family. This confirms the safety of one person among the 23, while efforts continue to locate the remaining 22 individuals in collaboration with relevant authorities.
Many of those missing were traveling in the Nepal-Tibet region, including those either on their way to or returning from the Mansarovar pilgrimage. Their last known locations include areas around Rasuwagadhi and Gyirong near the Nepal-Tibet border.
Following directives from Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, officials at Telangana Bhavan are maintaining constant communication with the state secretariat, the Ministry of External Affairs, the Indian Embassy, and other relevant authorities to locate these individuals, ensure their safety, and provide necessary assistance.
The Resident Commissioner at Telangana Bhavan in New Delhi is personally overseeing the situation and reviewing the coordination and actions taken by officials. The statement emphasized that information from family members, travel operators, and official sources is being continuously verified, and every actionable case is being prioritized with the relevant authorities.
The Telangana government will continue to closely monitor the situation and provide all necessary assistance based on verified information received from relevant agencies.
