
Nairobi, June 13: Indian High Commissioner Dr. Adarsh Swain visited Eldoret in Kenya’s Uasin Gishu County. During this visit, he met with Dr. Jonathan B. Chelilim, the Governor of Uasin Gishu County. The two leaders discussed various opportunities for collaboration between India and Kenya across different sectors.
The Indian High Commission in Nairobi shared on the social media platform X, “The High Commissioner met with Governor Dr. Jonathan B. Chelilim during his visit to Eldoret.”
Further, it stated, “The discussion focused on opportunities for cooperation between India and Uasin Gishu County within the larger framework of the India-Kenya partnership. Key areas included attracting Indian investments in agriculture and agro-processing, healthcare, sports, education, and capacity building.”
According to the High Commission, “The meeting emphasized the growing engagement between India and Kenya across various domains and the potential for increased collaboration with the county.”
In April, the 10th meeting of the India-Kenya Joint Trade Committee took place in Nairobi. The Indian High Commission reported that the meeting was co-chaired by Rajesh Agrawal, Secretary of Commerce in India, and Regina Akoth Ombam, Principal Secretary of Trade in Kenya.
The High Commission noted on X, “Both sides discussed enhancing mutual trade, improving market access, removing tariff and non-tariff barriers, and strengthening cooperation in specific sectors such as pharmaceuticals, agriculture, digital public infrastructure, fintech, energy, including renewable energy, and manufacturing.”
It was highlighted that developments in areas like logistics, infrastructure planning, and capacity building were reviewed for partnership and collaboration. The High Commission stated, “Both parties reiterated their commitment to a more diversified, balanced, and future-oriented economic partnership. They also agreed to advance institutional mechanisms to facilitate trade, resolve pending issues, and promote business-to-business (B2B) cooperation.”
During the 10th meeting of the India-Kenya Joint Trade Committee, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) and the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) regarding the exchange of pre-arrival information for goods.
