Mumbai, February 4: A tragic incident has emerged from the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay. A student has taken his own life, casting a pall of grief and silence over the campus. The police are currently conducting a thorough investigation into the matter.
The deceased has been identified as Naman Agarwal, a 21-year-old second-year B.Tech Civil Engineering student. Originally from Pilani, Rajasthan, he had moved to Mumbai for his studies.
Reports indicate that the incident occurred on the terrace of Hostel Number 4 within the IIT Bombay campus. Naman jumped from the roof, leading to chaos among fellow students and security personnel. Those present immediately notified the police and the IIT administration.
Upon receiving the report, the Powai Police arrived at the scene and rushed the student to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead by doctors. Subsequently, the police registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR) and initiated further investigations. They are working to determine the reasons behind Naman’s tragic decision.
As of now, no concrete information regarding the reasons for the suicide has been disclosed. There has been no confirmation of a suicide note, nor have any disputes or pressures been officially reported.
Police officials have informed the deceased’s family about the incident. Further actions will be based on the post-mortem report and the findings of the investigation. Meanwhile, the management of IIT Bombay is taking the matter seriously, and sources suggest that a review of student counseling and mental health services on campus may be conducted.
