
Dubai, May 8: The ICC has announced the nominations for the Best Women’s Player Award for April, featuring South Africa’s captain Laura Wolvaardt, Sri Lanka’s batter Imesha Dulani, and Brazil’s all-rounder Laura Cardoso.
Wolvaardt, who has already secured two awards in the past three months, delivered outstanding performances against New Zealand in ODIs and India in T20s. Her remarkable form positions her as the frontrunner for the April award.
In two ODIs, Wolvaardt scored 138 runs at an impressive average of 69.00, including back-to-back scores of 69 against New Zealand. She continued her dominance in a five-match T20 series against India, amassing 330 runs at an average of 82.50. Her highlight came in the third T20 against India, where she scored 115 runs off 53 balls, leading South Africa to a nine-wicket victory while chasing a target of 192 runs. This innings included 14 fours and five sixes.
Sri Lanka’s opener Dulani was named Player of the Series for her 116 runs in the ICC Women’s Championship Series, contributing to a 2-1 victory over Bangladesh. She also scored 82 runs in two T20 matches, featuring a rapid 55 runs off 40 balls in the series opener, which earned her a nomination for the April award.
Laura Cardoso’s nomination is a significant achievement for Brazilian cricket, a sport still in its infancy in her country. She scored 203 runs in seven T20 matches at a strike rate exceeding 130, including a half-century against Botswana and Zambia. Additionally, she took 17 wickets, showcasing her all-round capabilities.
