Hyderabad Police Launches Special Unit to Combat Food Adulteration

Hyderabad, March 19: In a decisive move against food adulteration, the Hyderabad police have established a specialized surveillance team named the ‘Hyderabad Food Adulteration Surveillance Team’ (H-FAST). This initiative aims to enhance food safety and regulatory actions in the region.

The unit was inaugurated by DCP (Task Force) Vaibhav Raghunath Gaikwad under the leadership of Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar. H-FAST will collaborate closely with food safety officials to ensure effective monitoring and enforcement against food adulteration.

Comprising a total of 28 personnel, including inspectors, sub-inspectors, and other staff, this team will focus on the surveillance, investigation, and prosecution of cases related to unsafe food products.

According to the police commissioner’s office, H-FAST will conduct raids alongside food safety officials to ensure stringent action against adulteration cases.

To encourage public participation, a toll-free number, 8712661212, has been issued for citizens to report complaints regarding adulterated or unsafe food items. Additionally, complaints can also be submitted through H-FAST’s social media platforms.

Officials have emphasized that food adulteration is a serious crime posing a significant threat to public health. A ‘zero tolerance’ policy will be adopted in such cases, with strict legal actions against offenders.

Notably, this unit was formed following two significant operations. In one case, six individuals were arrested for selling adulterated paneer and dairy products after raids on six shops in the Ganj Bazaar area of Secunderabad. In another incident, the Kulsumpura police uncovered an illegal and unsanitary pickle-making unit in Jiyaguda, where adulterated pickles were being produced and sold without a license.
