Ludhiana, June 22: Nitin Naveen, the president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), criticized the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Punjab, stating that it is time to hold the state government and its Chief Minister accountable for disrespecting the Gurus.
He accused the government of leading the state towards economic ruin, claiming that Punjab has been exploited like an ATM through reckless borrowing. Naveen promised that every penny would be accounted for.
Speaking at a conference attended by over 8,000 party workers and officials in Ludhiana, Naveen’s remarks came shortly after a major rally led by Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Moga. This high-level organizational meeting signals the BJP’s preparation to contest the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections independently.
Naveen emphasized that nothing is more important than the respect and dignity of the Gurus for the people of Punjab. He questioned how any state could tolerate a government whose Chief Minister disrespects its Gurus, urging the public to teach such a government a lesson.
Discussing the state’s economic condition, the BJP leader highlighted that Punjab is burdened with a staggering debt of ₹4 lakh crore. He alleged that millions of rupees in central funds allocated in recent years have been misappropriated by fraudsters.
According to Naveen, the Punjab government has done little for the public, endangering lives and livelihoods. He stated that under this government, human life has lost its value. “After the 2027 elections, we will recover every rupee looted from Punjab,” he asserted.
Naveen pointed out that Punjab is currently grappling with a triple crisis of drug addiction, gang violence, and rising debt. He claimed that only the BJP possesses the political will to rescue the state from this dire situation.
He reminded the audience that the BJP fulfills its promises, citing the abrogation of Article 370 as an example. “Peace has finally returned to Kashmir, where Pakistani flags once waved, and youth have joined the mainstream,” he said.
Highlighting the achievements of the central government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Naveen noted that 25 crore people have been lifted out of poverty, nearly four crore homes have been built under the PM Housing Scheme, and millions of women have been empowered through special welfare programs.
He stated that the BJP governs in 22 states across India, driving rapid development. He lamented that the absence of a ‘double-engine government’ in Punjab has deprived its people of these benefits, causing the state to lag behind.
Naveen urged voters to remove the current government from power, asserting that the party’s main goal is to create a strong, prosperous, and developed Punjab. He called on party workers to mobilize and start grassroots campaigns.
He concluded by saying, “Every BJP worker should reach out to every home, neighborhood, village, and city to inform people about the welfare policies of the Modi-led government and expose the misgovernance of the state government. If we put in our full effort, every booth committee can transform into a development and heritage committee.”
