HPV Vaccination Drive Gains Momentum in Burhanpur, Madhya Pradesh

Burhanpur, March 14: The HPV (Human Papillomavirus) vaccination campaign in Burhanpur district, Madhya Pradesh, is gaining significant momentum. Many families are bringing their daughters to health centers for vaccination.

This initiative aims to protect adolescent girls from cervical cancer by administering the HPV vaccine at health facilities. Additionally, the health department is conducting special awareness programs to dispel myths surrounding the vaccine.

District Vaccination Officer Y.B. Shastri stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the HPV vaccination campaign from Ajmer on February 28, 2026, and it is now being implemented nationwide.

He emphasized that vaccine hesitancy and various misconceptions pose significant challenges. To address these issues, media workshops and awareness campaigns are being organized.

According to the health department, this vaccination drive targets girls around 14 years of age to ensure their protection against cervical cancer. The campaign will run for the next three months, aiming to vaccinate as many adolescent girls as possible.

Shastri noted, “This HPV vaccination campaign, initiated by Prime Minister Modi, will last for three months, and our goal is to vaccinate 9,084 girls who have reached the age of 14.”

He urged residents not to pay attention to any misconceptions regarding vaccination. The primary objective of vaccination is to enhance the body’s ability to fight diseases.

Health experts indicate that this vaccine can boost the immune system by approximately 99.7% and is considered effective in preventing cervical cancer, with very few side effects.

They explained that the HPV virus is the leading cause of cervical cancer, which is regarded as the second deadliest cancer among women in the country. The vaccine provides protection for about ten years after administration.
