Bhopal, March 14: The Madhya Pradesh government has approved a revised stipend for junior resident doctors in the state’s government medical colleges and hospitals, announced Deputy Chief Minister Rajendra Shukla on Friday.
Shukla stated that the new stipend structure will take effect from April 1, 2025. This adjustment is based on a consumer price index increase of 2.94, which will benefit junior doctors working in medical colleges across the state.
As the minister responsible for health and medical education, Shukla emphasized the crucial role junior doctors play in strengthening the state’s healthcare services. He noted that these doctors not only receive medical training but also provide essential health services to patients.
In consideration of the interests of junior doctors, the medical education department has approved the stipend revisions. According to the new structure, the stipend for first-year postgraduate students will rise from ₹75,444 to ₹77,662, while second-year students will see an increase from ₹77,764 to ₹80,050. Third-year students’ stipends will also increase from ₹80,086 to ₹82,441.
Interns will receive a stipend increase from ₹13,928 to ₹14,337. The stipend for first, second, and third-year super specialty medical courses has been set at ₹82,441. Senior resident doctors will now earn ₹90,803, up from ₹88,210, while junior resident doctors will receive ₹63,324.
Prior to this approval, junior doctors across Madhya Pradesh staged protests led by the Junior Doctors Association, demanding the implementation of stipend revisions as per a government order from June 7, 2021. The issue was resolved after a meeting with a JUDA delegation in Jabalpur on March 10, leading to the end of the strike.
