Madhya Pradesh Government Suspends Vedanta Hospital from Ayushman Bharat Scheme

Indore, March 14: The Madhya Pradesh government announced on Friday that it has suspended Vedanta Hospital in Indore from the Ayushman Bharat Niramaayam scheme due to serious violations of the program’s standards.

According to government officials, the suspension was prompted by significant breaches identified during an inspection by the Chief Executive Officer of the Ayushman Bharat Niramaayam scheme. The inspection revealed that the condition of the operation theaters was extremely poor and unhygienic. Numerous irregularities and violations of central government guidelines were also noted.

An official indicated that the hospital failed to provide emergency health services to patients. Consequently, the Chief Executive Officer immediately suspended Vedanta Hospital, preventing it from offering services under the scheme.

Authorities reported that despite having a panel for surgical oncology, the hospital lacked a tumor board. There were also inadequate food arrangements for patients, a shortage of sufficient staff, and a lack of promotional materials. These financial and procedural deficiencies were deemed serious by the state health agency.

The government has warned that further actions could range from temporary suspensions to permanent removal of the hospital from the scheme.

Vedanta Hospital is a multi-specialty private facility known for providing affordable healthcare services. It is recognized for offering 24-hour emergency services and free critical surgeries under the Ayushman Bharat panel.

Notably, the Ayushman Bharat Niramaayam scheme is the implementation of the Prime Minister’s Jan Arogya Yojana in Madhya Pradesh. This scheme provides eligible low-income families with free health coverage of up to five lakh rupees per year, including secondary and tertiary care. It specifically covers families below the poverty line, beneficiaries of the Sambal scheme, and, in some cases, construction workers.
