Jaipur, March 14: Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma unveiled Honda Cars India’s first electric vehicle model, the Honda Alpha, during a meeting with the company’s delegation at the Chief Minister’s office on Saturday.
The electric vehicle will be manufactured at Honda’s Tapukara plant, with production expected to commence by the end of this year.
Chief Minister Sharma expressed pride in this decision, stating that Honda’s choice to produce its first electric vehicle in Rajasthan reflects the growing global confidence in the state’s investment policies.
He noted that during his visit to Japan ahead of the Rising Rajasthan Global Investment Summit in September 2024, he invited Honda’s top leadership to invest in electric vehicle manufacturing in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Make in India for the World.”
The Chief Minister assured the company of full government support in terms of infrastructure and policy facilitation for electric vehicle production.
He emphasized the state government’s commitment to promoting green energy and sustainable transportation while creating job opportunities. Rajasthan’s vast solar energy potential, combined with electric vehicle manufacturing, is expected to significantly boost the state’s economic growth.
Sharma mentioned that Honda plans to transform its Tapukara facility into a major hub for electric vehicle production, which could attract further investment in the EV sector and strengthen Rajasthan’s role in India’s evolving automotive industry.
To promote electric mobility in the state, the government is providing subsidies for electric vehicle purchases and establishing charging infrastructure through a single-window system.
Additionally, incentives are being offered under the state’s vehicle scrapping policy for scrapping vehicles older than 15 years and purchasing new ones.
Honda representatives informed the Chief Minister that the electric vehicle models produced at the Tapukara plant will cater to both domestic demand and international markets.
Takashi Nakajima, CEO of Honda Cars India, stated that the Tapukara plant serves as a key production center for the company in India, manufacturing vehicles and parts for both domestic and global markets.
He added that Honda has developed a robust automotive ecosystem in Rajasthan through its supplier network and two-wheeler manufacturing operations.
The meeting was attended by senior officials, including Chief Secretary V. Srinivasan, along with members of the Honda delegation from Japan.
