Warning Issued to Fishermen: Avoid Sea from 22 to 25 August 2025

Gandhinagar, 22 August (Kiran News): In the past 24 hours, heavy rainfall has been recorded across nearly three dozen districts of Gujarat, resulting in severe waterlogging in various areas. Roads are submerged, water has entered people’s homes, and residents are facing significant difficulty leaving their houses. The heavy downpour has also impacted transportation in several regions, and dams across the state are now filled to capacity. This information has been reported by the State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC) in Gandhinagar.

According to SEOC, heavy rainfall has occurred in 212 talukas across 33 districts. The highest rainfall was reported in Pardi taluka of Valsad district with 4 inches, followed by Dharampur taluka with 3 inches. More than 2 inches of rainfall was recorded in Khergam of Navsari, Kaprada of Valsad, and Talod taluka of Sabarkantha. However, since 6 am on Friday, only light showers have been reported in some districts, providing relief to the public.

SEOC reported that, as of 6:00 am on 22 August 2025, the state’s total average monsoon rainfall stands at 681.14 mm, which is 77.24 percent of the seasonal average. South Gujarat recorded the highest at 80.51 percent, followed by Kutch at 80.26 percent, Saurashtra at 77.39 percent, North Gujarat at 75.87 percent, and East-Central Gujarat with the lowest at 73.40 percent. The India Meteorological Department has issued a warning to fishermen in Gujarat’s coastal regions, advising them not to venture into the sea from 22 to 25 August 2025. According to the SEOC portal, as of 8:00 am today, the lifeline Narmada Dam has reached 80.84 percent of its total storage capacity, and 206 other reservoirs are filled up to 75.74 percent of their capacity. Across the state, 73 dams are on high alert, 35 on alert, and 16 dams have been issued warnings due to the ongoing rainfall.

Since the beginning of the monsoon season on 1 June 2025 until now, the administration has relocated 5,205 citizens to safe locations and rescued 900 people. Additionally, 12 NDRF teams and 20 SDRF teams have been deployed across the state, with 1 NDRF and 13 SDRF teams kept on reserve at headquarters.
