Devotees Flock to Mahakaleshwar Temple for Nirjala Ekadashi Celebration

Ujjain, June 25: On the auspicious occasion of Nirjala Ekadashi, thousands of devotees gathered at the world-renowned Mahakaleshwar Temple for the mesmerizing Bhasma Aarti held on Thursday morning.

The temple witnessed an extraordinary display of faith as devotees lined up from late night, eagerly awaiting their chance to glimpse their beloved deity.

At 4 AM, the rituals began with the awakening of Baba Mahakal, followed by a special adornment. On Nirjala Ekadashi, Baba Mahakal was adorned with a divine Vaishnav tilak, and the Bhasma Aarti was conducted with great reverence. After the sacred ceremony, Baba Mahakal blessed the devotees with divine darshan. The temple resonated with chants of “Jai Shri Mahakal” throughout the event.

Traditionally, the ashes used in the ceremony were sourced from cremation grounds. However, now a special preparation made from cow dung of the Kapila breed and medicinal herbs is utilized. It is customary for men participating in the Bhasma Aarti to wear traditional dhoti and women to don sarees.

The Bhasma Aarti of Baba Mahakal is famous not only in India but also attracts numerous prominent personalities from around the world.

This year, Nirjala Ekadashi was celebrated on June 25, also known as Bhimaseni Ekadashi. It is regarded as the most significant and revered Ekadashi, observed with fasting without food or water. Special prayers, Aarti, and the recitation of Vishnu Sahasranama are performed on this day. Additionally, donating a pot of water, fruits, umbrellas, and clothing is considered highly meritorious.
