
Mumbai, June 25: In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, police in Shivamogga, Karnataka, launched a series of operations targeting illegal substances. Authorities conducted raids at three different locations across various police precincts, seizing MDMA and marijuana being sold unlawfully. Five individuals were arrested during these operations, with drugs and vehicles confiscated.
According to reports, the Shivamogga Rural Police executed a raid near the Ragi Gudda Channel on Ardan Road, apprehending a 26-year-old named Azaruddin, also known as Azhar. Approximately 15 grams of MDMA, a mobile phone, and cash were seized from him. The total value of the confiscated MDMA and marijuana is estimated at around ₹1.5 lakh.
The Anandapura Police Station conducted an operation on the Sagar-Anandapura Road, leading to the arrest of two suspects, Mujju and Hafeezullah. From them, police recovered nearly 95 grams of marijuana and a motorcycle.
Similarly, the Sagar Town Police raided an area near Aralikoppa Layout Cross, arresting 38-year-old Altaf Ashfaq and 40-year-old Akbar Beg. They were found in possession of about 330 grams of marijuana and a car valued at ₹4 lakh. The accused face charges under the NDPS Act, with three separate cases registered against them.
Earlier in April, Bengaluru City Police had arrested 16 individuals in coordinated operations across the city, seizing narcotics worth approximately ₹36.67 crore. Among those arrested were four foreign nationals, eight individuals from other states, and four locals.
The seized drugs included 9.64 kilograms of MDMA, 5.195 kilograms of hydro marijuana, 19,755 LSD strips, 156 grams of heroin, 618 grams of charas, 332 grams of cocaine, 315 grams of drug-infused gummies, and 11.47 kilograms of marijuana. The accused reportedly sourced these narcotics at low prices from abroad and other states for distribution in Bengaluru. Police have urged citizens to assist in the fight against drug abuse and trafficking. Individuals can confidentially report information by calling the helplines 1922 or 112.
