Srinagar, July 19: Heavy rainfall in Jammu and Kashmir has led to severe conditions in several areas. In Nowshera, the water level of the Manawar River has risen, causing flooding in low-lying regions and damaging homes.
The flooding has heightened anxiety among residents. Authorities are monitoring the situation closely, and relief operations are underway. People are urged to remain vigilant and stay away from flood-affected areas.
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah posted on the social media platform ‘X’, stating, “Since this morning, I have been closely monitoring the situation in parts of Jammu, especially in Rajouri city and its surrounding areas due to the heavy rainfall.”
He further added, “I am in contact with local legislators in the area. As conditions develop, the administration’s top priority is to save precious lives. The government will make every possible effort to assist those affected whose properties have been damaged by the rain and sudden flooding.”
Gopal Sharma, a resident of Nowshera, shared, “I urge people to follow the administration’s instructions and stay away from rivers and streams. Early in the morning, the water flow became very strong, prompting Nowshera police to alert slum residents overnight. The current is so powerful that refrigerators, coolers, and other items are being swept away.”
Sharma also mentioned, “We have never seen this much water in our lives. The Nowshera police are keeping people informed. Warnings have been issued for the next three to four days.”
