Jammu, July 19: The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has seized heroin worth ₹25 crore near the Line of Control in Poonch district, Jammu and Kashmir.
Officials reported that this is one of the largest drug seizures in recent years near the border. The operation took place in the border village of Kosliyan in Haveli Tehsil as part of a planned anti-drug campaign.
The heroin, smuggled across the border, was intended to be transported into the interior regions through an organized cross-border drug network. The estimated international market value of the seized heroin exceeds ₹25 crore, making it one of the largest drug confiscations in the border district in recent years.
Security agencies have repeatedly expressed concerns about drug trafficking attempts in Jammu and Kashmir, particularly by Pakistan-based smugglers and handlers using border routes.
Authorities have arrested a suspected trafficker in connection with the seizure. They are continuing investigations to identify the intended recipients of the shipment, the involved cross-border brokers, and the local networks that assisted in its transport and distribution.
As the investigation progresses, further arrests and seizures are anticipated. Intelligence agencies believe that funds obtained from cross-border drug trafficking, hawala rackets, and other financial scams are ultimately used to promote terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir.
While local police and security forces conduct anti-smuggling operations in the interior regions, the Army and Border Security Force (BSF) are deployed along the Line of Control and international border to prevent smuggling, infiltration, and drone activities initiated from Pakistan.
