Amaravati, 27 August (Kiran News). A low-pressure area is developing over the north-western Bay of Bengal near the Odisha coast, and it is expected to move gradually towards Odisha in the next 24 hours. Due to this significant low-pressure system, several places in Andhra Pradesh, especially coastal areas, are likely to receive moderate to heavy rainfall. Winds are expected to blow at speeds of 40-60 km per hour along the coast. Authorities have advised fishermen not to venture into the sea.

In view of this, officials have urged people to stay alert and advised organisers of Vinayak Mandapam in Andhra Pradesh to exercise caution. According to officials, moderate to heavy rain is expected in Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Manyam, Alluri, West Godavari, Eluru, NTR, and Guntur districts due to the low-pressure system.
NTR District Collector of Vijayawada, G. Lakshmi, has directed all officials to remain vigilant in view of the continuous rainfall. She said that special monitoring teams and flood response teams should be active 24 hours a day as a unit of the village and ward secretariats. She also suggested that residents of catchment area villages should be informed about flood situations from time to time. A control room has been set up in the DM’s office, and its number is 91549 70454.
The District Collector instructed the control room to keep revenue, irrigation, panchayat raj, medical and health, fire, electricity, and other department officials, along with special officers of mandals and constituencies, alert about the situation in their respective areas. She directed MPDOs and tehsildars to coordinate with officials of various departments in the mandals.
She also instructed to set up rehabilitation camps for those in need and asked municipal administration officials to remain vigilant, especially in hilly areas. Special attention is to be given to low-lying areas. She added that Budameru, Munnuru, and Prakasam barrages in Vijayawada are being continuously monitored, and there is currently no cause for concern.
Rainfall has continued in Vijayawada since morning, resulting in waterlogged roads at several places. VMC employees and special emergency teams are working to clear the accumulated water from the streets. Floodwaters are continuously flowing into the Prakasam Barrage, with an inflow of 1,37,000 cusecs. As a result, 69 gates have been opened, and 1.5 lakh cusecs of water are being released into the sea.
