Mumbai, August 21: Former Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Prithviraj Chavan, shared his thoughts on Rahul Gandhi’s upcoming ‘Students’ Voice’ event in Pune. Speaking to reporters on Friday, he noted that this is not the first time Gandhi has engaged with students. He has previously interacted with them to understand their issues.
Chavan criticized the police’s oppressive behavior towards protesting students at Jantar Mantar. Since then, Rahul Gandhi has consistently raised student issues. Our leader even brought these concerns to Parliament. Unfortunately, both the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister were absent, preventing a discussion on student matters. The government has shown insensitivity towards students. Opposition members are raising these issues, and we will continue to do so. Devendra Fadnavis will not dictate our meetings; we will discuss our agendas independently.
He emphasized that those in power can express their views, and we have no objections. However, as the opposition, we will persist in highlighting student-related issues. It is the opposition’s duty to raise public concerns, and we will not tolerate any negligence in this regard. In any democratic system, it is essential for the opposition to voice its opinions boldly.
Additionally, Prithviraj Chavan responded to Rahul Gandhi’s bus journey initiative, stating that we will strive to win Punjab through various means. Whether through bus or foot marches, we will continue to engage with the public there.
He remarked on those who, after seeking forgiveness from the British, now attempt to lecture us on patriotism and national pride. Who are they to speak of unity when they have historically promoted division?
