Kumar had allegedly died by suicide on October 7 afternoon at his official residence in Sector 11, Chandigarh, using his gunman’s service revolver. Since the incident, there had been a continuous deadlock regarding his post-mortem and final rites.

The development came after Kumar’s wife, IAS officer Amneet P. Kumar, gave written consent on Wednesday morning to the Haryana Government and Chandigarh Administration. In her letter, she stated that she was allowing the post-mortem in light of assurances from the Union Territory Police about a fair, transparent, and unbiased investigation, and the Haryana Government’s commitment to take appropriate legal action against any responsible officials.

Amneet P. Kumar emphasized that the post-mortem was necessary for the sake of justice and timely evidence preservation. She requested that it be conducted by a duly constituted medical board, under magisterial supervision, with a ballistic expert present and complete videography to ensure full transparency.

“I have full faith in the judiciary and police administration and hope the investigation will be carried out professionally, impartially, and within a time-bound framework so that the truth comes out as per the law. I will continue to extend full cooperation to the investigation team,” she said in her letter.

Following her consent, Chandigarh Deputy Commissioner Nishant Yadav and senior police officials reached the hospital, where the medical board performed the post-mortem in the presence of Amneet P. Kumar.
