New Delhi, June 9: Indian women’s cricket team captain Harmanpreet Kaur believes that the team’s perspective has shifted since their ODI World Cup victory last year. The team is now gearing up to win the T20 World Cup 2026.
Harmanpreet stated on GeoStar, “I think life has completely changed after winning the first ODI World Cup. I hope we can continue this trophy-winning streak. As a captain, that’s what I desire, and I believe everyone in our team shares this dream. We will keep moving in this direction.”
As the most experienced player on the current Indian team, Harmanpreet has played a crucial role in the development of women’s cricket in India over the past decade. After participating in several ICC events and witnessing various campaigns end in disappointment, she now leads a team that is confident in their ability to become champions on the biggest stage.
The Indian team’s confidence is evident in their preparations. They recently kicked off their warm-up campaign with a victory over the West Indies in Cardiff, showcasing impressive performances from several players.
The squad includes seasoned players like Harmanpreet, Smriti Mandhana, and Deepti Sharma, alongside emerging talents who have made a mark in international cricket. The management hopes this balance will help maintain the momentum gained from last year’s World Cup success.
The Indian team’s best performance in the history of the Women’s T20 World Cup came in 2020 when they reached the finals but faced defeat against Australia.
