Bank Executive Stabbed to Death in New Yorks Times Square; Attacker Shot by Police

New York, September 2: A tragic incident unfolded in New York’s Times Square, one of the world’s most famous tourist destinations, where a woman fatally stabbed a senior bank executive. At the time, thousands of tourists were present in the area. According to police, the attacker was shot by officers following the incident.

The victim has been identified as Erin Piasenti, a 32-year-old vice president at Bank of America (BOA).

In a statement released on Tuesday, Bank of America expressed its shock and sorrow over the tragic loss, stating, “We are devastated by the passing of our colleague. She was a vital member of our team and will be remembered always.”

New York Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch described the event as “a very dangerous incident in the heart of Times Square” during a press conference.

Authorities revealed that the same woman had previously attacked another individual with a knife. That person was injured but is reported to be in stable condition at the hospital, as confirmed by New York Mayor Joharan Mamdani.

While Times Square has long been a target for terrorist threats, officials indicated that there were no signs of terrorism related to this incident. Initial investigations suggest that mental health issues may have played a role.

According to police, the attacker, 45-year-old Pamela Cisneros, had a history of mental health problems and had encountered law enforcement on two prior occasions. Tourists present during the attack were frightened, as the woman wielded two knives and resisted police attempts to subdue her.

Police reported that officers initially attempted to use a Taser to incapacitate her. However, when this method failed and the situation escalated, two officers fired their weapons.

Commissioner Tisch noted that during the confrontation, the woman threatened the officers, saying, “I’m not leaving anything behind. I would love to kill both of you.”

Officials stated that while the overall number of violent crimes in the city is decreasing, there have been instances of sudden attacks by individuals with mental health issues.
