Tamil Nadu Congress Leader Criticizes DMK for Cheap Politics Post-Election Loss

Chennai, August 30: Ruby R. Manoharan, the treasurer of the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee, has sharply criticized the DMK. He questioned the DMK’s right to make derogatory comments about Satyamurthy Bhavan, the Congress headquarters, or to demand its name change.

In his statement, Manoharan accused the DMK and its spokespersons of politically motivated attacks after failing to accept the public’s decision in the 2026 assembly elections. He urged DMK leader E. Paranthaman to verify the facts by reviewing the policy documents from the previous government before making accusations against Congress.

Manoharan claimed that the official policy documents presented by former minister R.S. Rajakannappan during the DMK government’s tenure from 2022-23 to 2024-25 did not mention Jawaharlal Nehru or B.R. Ambedkar. He questioned whether Paranthaman, who was an MLA at the time, raised any objections when these documents were presented in the assembly.

He also inquired why the DMK’s commitment to social justice was not evident when the names of Nehru and Ambedkar were allegedly omitted from official policy statements. Manoharan accused the DMK of hypocrisy, suggesting that the names were suddenly included just before the 2026 elections through former minister Shiva V. Meyyanathan to fulfill political gains and coalition pressures.

He asserted that the public is aware of the DMK’s deceptive political maneuvers. Manoharan further alleged that Paranthaman’s criticism stems from either disappointment over not securing an assembly seat in the elections or an attempt to improve his chances of receiving a party ticket in the future.

Discussing the ongoing controversy over Satyamurthy Bhavan, he questioned the DMK’s authority to criticize or suggest renaming the Congress headquarters. He urged the DMK to clarify whether it intends to rename its headquarters, ‘Anna Arivalayam,’ since it previously failed to acknowledge Nehru and Ambedkar in earlier policy documents.

Manoharan concluded by stating that the DMK is attempting to divert attention from its electoral defeat by blaming other parties and hiding its double standards. He warned that the party’s ‘cheap political dramas’ and attempts to misrepresent the history of social justice will no longer be tolerated.
