Ajit Dovals Crucial Visit to China: Experts Weigh In on India’s Diplomatic Strategy

New Delhi, August 23: National Security Advisor Ajit Doval’s upcoming visit to China on Monday is deemed significant by foreign affairs expert Wail Awad for two primary reasons. First, it aims to resolve border disputes, and second, it involves inviting Xi Jinping to the BRICS summit. Awad noted that India’s recent actions reflect a keen interest in maintaining stable relations with China, which is crucial for building trust between the two major Asian nations.

Wail Awad emphasized, “This visit is vital for two reasons: addressing mutual issues, particularly those related to borders, and inviting Xi Jinping to the BRICS summit, as we are still uncertain about his attendance.”

He further stated that India’s steps clearly indicate its eagerness to sustain stable relations with China. However, he acknowledged that complete consensus between the two sides may not be achievable, and differences will persist. He believes these measures are essential for fostering trust between the two significant Asian powers.

Regarding India-U.S. relations, Awad remarked, “Following President Trump’s attempts to improve conditions, India-U.S. relations are gradually normalizing, but he has already harmed the strategic ties between the two countries.”

He noted that the U.S. ambassador has been seen working to mend this relationship, emphasizing that India is a vital asset and partner for the United States.

On President Trump’s tariff policy, he expressed concern that the imposition of tariffs on neighboring and even allied countries could pressure the Indian government, which may have to face ongoing tariff issues.

He added, “This must come to an end, as the U.S. President is also threatening friends, partners, and traditional allies like Canada. This shows that exerting economic pressure on allies yields no positive results and instead diminishes trust between nations. Trump has already created a trust deficit with Canada, which is now responding in kind.”

On the issue of U.S. President Donald Trump’s sharing of images of the Strait of Hormuz as American territory, expert Wail Awad commented, “I believe he is making the world a more dangerous place. What I would call ‘cowboy diplomacy’ is what Trump is practicing. Instead of attempting to secure international maritime routes, he is now claiming these maritime areas as U.S. territory.”

He further stated that Trump aims to control areas rich in oil and gas resources and essential trade routes. He believes this approach complicates the situation further, confirming that the current conflict against Iran was never truly about nuclear issues. This was propelled by Israel, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu pushing Trump into this confrontation.
