New Delhi, April 27: Hansraj College, part of Delhi University, has suspended approximately 30 students for allegedly defaming the institution and using derogatory language on social media. This group includes four officials from the student union.
Reports indicate that notices were issued between April 20 and 25, following incidents of violence and misconduct during the annual festival held on April 8 and 9. The college administration stated in a notice that the union officials would be suspended immediately until disciplinary proceedings are completed.
The Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) has strongly criticized this decision. DUSU President Aryan Mann expressed his concern, stating, “I recently learned that around 30 students have been suspended. Most troubling is that members of the college union, elected by nearly 7,000 students, are among them.”
Mann, a graduate of Hansraj College and an active participant in student politics for three years, added, “These students were suspended because the college was denying permission for the festival, which upset the students.”
He further explained, “Festivals are held every year, but this time the college refused to allow it. In response, students organized a protest. Under pressure, the festival was eventually conducted, but faculty members did not provide significant support to the students. Now, these students face suspension.”
Mann announced plans to meet with the college principal. He warned, “If our concerns are not addressed, we will protest. We are prepared to continue this demonstration for months if necessary.”
