Rohtak, August 25: Gurmeet Ram Rahim, the leader of the Dera Sacha Sauda sect, has been granted parole once again while serving a life sentence for rape. This time, he has received a 21-day parole. After his release, Ram Rahim is expected to travel to Sirsa. Notably, this marks the 17th time he has been allowed to leave prison.
Previously, on May 26, Ram Rahim was granted a 30-day parole, and earlier in January, he received a 40-day parole, returning to Sunaria Jail on February 15.
The frequent grants of parole to Gurmeet Ram Rahim have raised numerous questions. Opposition parties and various social organizations have expressed their objections. However, the administration maintains that the parole is granted in accordance with legal regulations. On September 15, 2025, he had also been granted a 40-day parole. It is important to note that a special CBI court sentenced Gurmeet Ram Rahim to a total of 20 years in prison for the sexual assault of two female disciples.
During most of his previous releases, Ram Rahim stayed at the Dera Sacha Sauda ashram located in Baghpat district of Uttar Pradesh. The Dera Sacha Sauda organization, headquartered in Sirsa, has a significant following across northern states, including Haryana, Punjab, and Rajasthan.
In a related development, the Supreme Court has issued a notice regarding a petition challenging the acquittal of Gurmeet Ram Rahim in the murder case of journalist Ram Chander Chhatrapati. The court has sought responses from Ram Rahim and the CBI. The hearing for this case is set to begin in the week of November 16. The Supreme Court noted that the state government has not filed an appeal against the High Court‘s decision. The acquittal by the Punjab-Haryana High Court has been contested in the Supreme Court, with the notice issued on August 10.
