New Delhi, August 24: Union Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the two-day 9th National Security Strategy Conference 2026 in New Delhi on Monday. Before the conference began, Shah paid tribute to the brave personnel of the Intelligence Bureau (IB) at the Martyrs’ Column, honoring those who sacrificed their lives for the nation’s security and integrity.
The conference was held in a hybrid format, with around 850 officials participating from across the country. Key attendees included the Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, the Union Home Secretary, the Deputy National Security Advisor, and heads of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) and Central Police Organizations (CPO). Police Directors General from various states and Union Territories, cutting-edge young police officers, and domain experts participated virtually from their respective state capitals.
On the first day, critical challenges related to national security were discussed. Topics included strategies to combat terrorism, integrating intelligence through the Multi-Agency Centre (MAC), and implementing a vision document for drug control. Other issues addressed were identifying and repatriating illegal immigrants, cybercrime, and countering Pakistan’s proxy war.
To effectively tackle terrorism and extremism, Amit Shah emphasized the implementation of the MHA’s ‘Prahaar’ scheme, which focuses on training, expediting trials against fugitives, and utilizing provisions for ‘trial in absentia.’ He also called for a comprehensive and integrated approach to investigating UAPA cases.
The Union Minister instructed that AI-based analysis of information available on the MAC platform be conducted to create Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for addressing various national security challenges. He urged participants to adopt a ‘zero tolerance’ policy towards illegal immigrants and develop a robust framework to address the issue of infiltration. All agencies were directed to take stringent action against infiltration.
The second day of the conference will focus on threats related to sub-aerial systems (air attack systems), measures to secure the blue economy, information warfare and its impact on national security, and the need for a bio-security framework.
Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s directives, the NSSC has been held annually in a hybrid format since 2021. Its aim is to find solutions to significant national security challenges through the extensive experience of ground-level cutting-edge officials and collaboration with subject matter experts.
