Washington, August 25: U.S. President Donald Trump announced that Chinese President Xi Jinping will visit America in two weeks. Trump shared this information during a ‘back-to-school’ event at the White House. However, he did not provide additional details regarding the date, agenda, or discussions planned with Xi Jinping.
At the beginning of the event held in the Rose Garden, Trump stated, “President Xi is coming here in two weeks. I visited China two months ago, and we saw the Great Hall there. Now, we are going to build a Great Hall in America. This is very important.”
Trump linked the proposed White House complex to his administration’s construction projects, mentioning that it will include a grand ballroom and a military complex. He remarked, “As you know, we are building a military complex and a ballroom that will be unmatched anywhere in the world.”
After addressing education-related topics, Trump revisited the construction project. He invited students and their families present at the event to join him in witnessing the construction work.
He said, “You will see that magnificent building being constructed right next to the White House. It will be a ballroom and military complex. It’s incredible.” Trump also noted that a new heliport is being built at the White House. He pointed out that helicopters previously had to land on grassy areas, which posed challenges and risks during rain or wet conditions. He mentioned, “We are creating a beautiful heliport that has been needed for many years.”
Trump appeared quite enthusiastic about showcasing the construction work to the children in the Rose Garden. He expressed, “I love the sound of construction. When I hear the sounds of hammers and machines outside, some people say it’s not good. But I say I love it.”
He praised the workers involved in the project, stating they are doing significant work for America. He reiterated that the need for a new heliport has been felt for many years, adding, “We are doing all the work that should have been done years ago.”
Trump’s announcement of Xi Jinping’s potential visit comes at a time when neither the Chinese government nor the White House has released an official detailed statement regarding the matter. Nevertheless, this announcement indicates another high-level meeting between the leaders of the two largest economies in the world.
Relations between Washington and Beijing have been affected by issues such as trade, technology, Taiwan, the South China Sea, and strategic competition in the Indo-Pacific region in recent years. Despite this, both countries have continued high-level discussions to manage tensions and prevent further deterioration of their relationship.
The Great Hall of the People in Beijing is one of China’s most significant government and formal buildings. It is located on the western side of Tiananmen Square and hosts major government ceremonies, meetings of the Chinese parliament, and receptions for foreign leaders.
