Ahmedabad, May 16: The Kesar Mango Festival 2026 is set to commence in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, showcasing a significant farmer-to-consumer initiative. This event will take place at Vastrapur Haat, bringing together farmers, producer groups, and urban buyers. The aim is to provide farmers with better prices while ensuring consumers have easy access to chemical-free fruits.
Organized by the Gujarat Agro Industries Corporation under the state’s agriculture department, the festival will be inaugurated virtually by Minister Jitu Vaghani on May 16. Mango sales will continue until June 15, followed by the sale of GI-tagged dates from June 16 to 25.
Approximately 100 stalls will be set up at the venue, with 85 dedicated to mangoes and 15 to GI-tagged dates. These stalls have been allocated free of charge to farmer-producer organizations, natural farming groups, and individual farmers, allowing them to sell directly to consumers without intermediaries.
The festival will feature carbide-free mangoes sourced from key producing regions such as Gir, Junagadh, Amreli, Kutch, Valsad, and Navsari.
Officials have stated that the initiative aims to strengthen direct market relationships between farmers and consumers. The platform is also designed to enhance farmers’ access to urban markets in cities like Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar.
Previous events have seen remarkable consumer participation. Last year’s festival recorded sales of over 330,000 kilograms of mangoes within a month, valued at approximately four crore rupees. Additionally, a five-day mango festival held during the Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conference in Surat saw sales of 5,685 kilograms of mangoes, worth over 784,000 rupees. The Kesar Mango Festival was first launched in Gujarat in 2007 and has been held annually during the summer season since then.
