Kochi, July 28: Malayalam cinema’s popular actor and comedian Ramesh Pisharody is currently in the spotlight due to a legal issue rather than his films. Recently, he won a seat in the Kerala Legislative Assembly from the Palakkad constituency as a Congress candidate.
Shortly after his election, Pisharody’s name surfaced as an accused in a case linked to the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) ad-hoc committee. He has now approached the court, claiming he has been deliberately framed. He asserts that this is an attempt to damage his image and political standing.
In a sworn affidavit submitted to the local Munsiff Court, Pisharody stated that being named as an accused is entirely unjustified. He emphasized that there is no solid evidence against him, nor any facts that could hold him responsible in this matter. He has requested the court to remove his name from the list of accused, asserting that he has no connection to the case.
In his affidavit, Pisharody explained that his involvement with the AMMA ad-hoc committee was brief and limited in scope. He accepted the position of chairman during a challenging time for the organization, keeping the members’ interests in mind. However, he realized the responsibility was not suitable for him and resigned the very next day.
Pisharody also made serious allegations against actress Shweta Menon. He claimed that despite resigning from her position as AMMA head, Menon failed to hand over several important files, minutes books, and other official documents to the new interim committee. This lack of documentation has significantly hindered the ad-hoc committee’s operations.
He reiterated that he has been intentionally accused in this case, suggesting that political motives may be at play. He believes that linking his name to this case aims to tarnish his growing political reputation and public image following his election.
Pisharody has appealed to the court for a decision based on facts and evidence, rather than prejudice or external pressure.
