Prime Minister Modi to Transfer ₹18,880 Crore to Farmers Under PM-KISAN Scheme

New Delhi, June 18: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to transfer approximately ₹18,880 crore to over 9.44 crore farmers across the country as part of the 23rd installment of the PM-KISAN scheme on June 20. This announcement was made by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare on Thursday.

According to the ministry’s statement, PM Modi will initiate the transfer from Tarakeshwar in Hooghly district, West Bengal. During this event, he will also launch several significant projects in agriculture, rural development, fisheries, and railways, aimed at advancing the vision of a ‘Developed India, Developed West Bengal.’

Additionally, he will introduce key initiatives such as the Prime Minister’s Crop Insurance Scheme, the revamped Weather-Based Crop Insurance Scheme, the Digital Agriculture Mission, the National Natural Farming Mission, and the PM-Dhan-Dhan Agriculture Scheme. These initiatives are expected to enhance farmers’ income, improve rural infrastructure, and promote inclusive development, thereby transforming West Bengal’s agricultural landscape.

Union Agriculture Minister Singh stated that this national-level program in West Bengal, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, will be a historic opportunity for farmers, rural communities, and youth. He emphasized the government’s commitment to making Eastern India a strong center for agriculture, infrastructure, and industrial development, with the June 20 event marking a significant step towards this vision.

In West Bengal alone, over 45.35 lakh beneficiary farmers will receive approximately ₹907 crore as part of the 23rd installment of the PM-KISAN scheme. The total amount distributed under this scheme in the state will exceed ₹15,055 crore, while the overall distribution across the country since the scheme’s launch in 2019 will surpass ₹4.46 lakh crore.

During this event, Prime Minister Modi will also launch the Prime Minister’s Crop Insurance Scheme (PMFBY) and the revamped Weather-Based Crop Insurance Scheme (RWBCIS), which have a combined cost of approximately ₹12,200 crore. The goal for the fiscal year 2026-27 is to provide crop insurance coverage to around 1.10 crore farmers across 30 lakh hectares of agricultural land, covering crops valued at approximately ₹28,140 crore.
