Gujarat Police Launches 28-Day Safe Power Campaign Focused on Womens Safety

Gandhinagar, August 18: The Gujarat Police has initiated a 28-day statewide ‘Safe Power’ campaign aimed at enhancing the safety of women and girls. This initiative includes preventive policing, digital safety awareness, victim support, community engagement, and performance-based monitoring.

The campaign was launched following directives from Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghvi, emphasizing that “there should be no compromise on the safety of women and children, and all necessary measures must be taken to prevent crimes against them.”

Under the supervision of Director General of Police (DGP) G.S. Malik, the state police will also focus on threats faced by women and girls on digital platforms.

This initiative, led by DGP (CID Crime and Railways) K.L.N. Rao, is designed with a focus on prevention and safety, awareness and empowerment, support and enforcement, and sustainability.

It includes a system for monitoring police unit performance and evaluating outcomes through measurable indicators.

Ajay Chaudhary, Additional DGP (CID Crime, Women’s Cell), stated that they have proposed measurable Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to assess the effectiveness of evidence-based policing and initiatives.

As part of prevention and safety measures, police units have been instructed to identify sensitive areas, increase patrols, and implement preventive interventions against crimes and harassment affecting women.

The campaign will also promote visible policing, the use of body-worn cameras, and other technological tools to improve accountability and evidence collection.

A significant component of the digital safety campaign is educating women and girls about online threats, including cyberbullying, online grooming, sextortion, deepfakes, OTP fraud, and QR code scams.

Chaudhary emphasized that a key focus of the campaign is awareness and digital safety. The police will educate women and girls about emerging online threats such as cyberbullying and online grooming.

Under this campaign, women will also be familiarized with emergency and support mechanisms, including helpline numbers 181, 112, and 1930, as well as one-stop centers.

This initiative aims to empower women to acquire self-defense skills and understand their legal rights.
