Gujarat BJP Legislator Govind Parmar Passes Away, Party Leaders Mourn

Anand, March 6: Govind Parmar, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislator from the Umreth constituency in Gujarat’s Anand district, passed away on Friday while receiving treatment in a hospital. He was 82 years old. According to party leaders, Parmar had been unwell for an extended period and breathed his last at the Anand hospital.

His death has prompted an outpouring of grief from political leaders and BJP workers across the state, particularly in Anand district and the Umreth area. Born in 1943, Parmar hailed from a humble background and was known as a grassroots political leader with deep ties to rural communities in the Charotar region.

He completed his education up to the seventh grade before dedicating his life to public service and politics. Parmar was elected to the Gujarat Assembly from the Umreth constituency in the 2017 elections, where he defeated Congress candidate Kapilaben Chavda by a margin of 1,883 votes, marking the beginning of his first term in office.

In the 2022 Assembly elections, he retained his seat as the BJP candidate, securing 95,639 votes and defeating Nationalist Congress Party’s Jayant Patel by 26,717 votes. Reacting to the news, state BJP president and legislator Jagdish Vishwakarma expressed profound sorrow over Parmar’s passing.

Vishwakarma stated in a message, “I am deeply saddened to hear about the tragic demise of the popular legislator Govindbhai Parmar from Umreth. I pray to God to grant peace to his soul and strength to his family to bear this loss.”

Parmar’s political career was marked by his commitment to grassroots politics and close relationships with local communities. BJP workers in Anand district and the Umreth area have expressed their condolences and paid tribute to the late legislator.

He is survived by his family members. His passing has left the Umreth Assembly seat vacant.
