Greater Noida, September 12 (Daily Kiran) : Greater Noida authorities have arrested three individuals linked to a fraud scheme involving the sale of counterfeit gold jewelry. The suspects, two men and one woman, were apprehended by police from the Bisrakh police station after a complaint from a victim.
The police seized ₹1.2 lakh in cash along with fake gold chains during the operation. Additionally, two fixed deposits of ₹2 lakh each were frozen as part of the investigation.
According to police reports, the suspects posed as laborers and concocted a story about finding gold and silver during excavation work. They lured victims into their trap by claiming they wanted to sell the precious metals at a bargain price.
The victim’s complaint detailed how the suspects, who were initially unknown, deceived the victim’s father by providing a bag filled with fake gold jewelry, leading to significant financial loss.
To crack the case, police utilized local intelligence and analyzed CCTV footage from the area. This led to the successful identification and arrest of the trio on September 12. The suspects were identified as Mani, approximately 40 years old, Mohan, around 43, and Dharma, about 45. Mani and Mohan are originally from the JJ Colony in Uttam Nagar, Delhi, while Dharma hails from Bhagirathi Vihar, Bhajanpura, Delhi.
During interrogation, the police uncovered the suspects’ modus operandi. They would gain the trust of their victims by pretending to be laborers who had discovered gold or silver. After establishing rapport, they would offer to sell fake jewelry at a low price, tricking victims into parting with their money.
Authorities are now investigating further to determine how many similar scams the group may have conducted and whether others were involved in their operations.
