Tragic Landslide in Mizoram Claims Life of 13-Year-Old Boy Amid Heavy Rainfall

Kolasib, September 12 (Daily Kiran) : Heavy rainfall in Kolasib district, Mizoram, has triggered multiple landslides and significant destruction. On Saturday morning, a house collapsed in the Jalenweng area of Vairengte, resulting in the death of a 13-year-old boy.

The incident occurred around 4:30 AM when the home of Pu Ngamlaliana and his son, Lalhlimthanga, was buried under debris. Two families resided in the affected house. Tragically, the boy, Jodinaliana, was trapped in the rubble and lost his life. Hearing the crash, several residents managed to escape, while three others sustained injuries and were transported to Vairengte Hospital for treatment.

In another incident in Dinthar Veng, a landslide severely damaged the home of Pu F. Lalrinpuia, rendering it unsafe for habitation.

The landslides have also disrupted transportation in various areas. A section of the Serkhan-Bagha road in Saifai collapsed, and the road connecting Vairengte and Bilkhawthlir is now closed due to landslides.

In the Rengte Tlang Sang area, another landslide has blocked a road, with reports of smaller landslides in other locations. The heavy flooding has also caused damage to several fish farming ponds in the region.

Local MLA Pu Lalrinzanga Ralte has announced financial assistance for relief and rescue operations following the natural disaster. He expressed condolences to the affected families and pledged to raise the issue with the government to ensure they receive all possible support and relief.
