Agra, April 7: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath unveiled significant development plans for the historic city of Agra on Tuesday. During a grand event near the Agra Inner Ring Road in Rahankala, he inaugurated and laid the foundation for 325 development projects worth ₹6,466.37 crores. He stated that Greater Agra will emerge as a new Noida, creating job opportunities and attracting major companies.
Paying homage to the land of Braj, CM Yogi performed the groundbreaking ceremony for the ‘Greater Agra’ township, aimed at giving a new direction to urban expansion in Agra. He emphasized that this new city will not only be smart but also completely secure. The government’s objective is to develop Agra as a modern, cultural, and economic hub, rather than just a tourist destination. Greater Agra is set to become the second Noida, bringing in large corporations and generating new job opportunities for the youth.
This ambitious township will be constructed by the Agra Development Authority (ADA) under the Uttar Pradesh government’s ‘New City Promotion Scheme.’ It will be developed on 449.65 hectares of land in the Raipur and Rahankala areas at a cost of approximately ₹5,142 crores. A unique feature of this township is that the sectors will be named after ten sacred rivers, including Ganga, Yamuna, Saraswati, and Godavari. The project has already received approval from RERA. It will provide multi-story flats, group housing, plots, modern roads, sewage systems, green spaces, and other civic amenities for over 10,000 families. This will be a unique blend of faith and modern urbanization.
Mentioning the adverse weather conditions, CM Yogi shared that he had to return via the Mathura-Vrindavan route and stayed at Agra Airport until 3:30 PM. He hoped that the delay would reduce the crowd, but he was overwhelmed by the public’s enthusiasm. He expressed gratitude, noting that Agra’s citizens have elected nine MLAs, a mayor, an MP, and a district panchayat president, in return for which the government has provided significant facilities like the Agra Metro. The event included the inauguration and foundation-laying of a total of 325 development projects, which will strengthen the city’s infrastructure, tourism, housing, and connectivity.
The Chief Minister hinted at future plans, stating that the development of Agra Airport will be expedited, with a new civil terminal expected by the end of this year. The government will also focus on the development of the Fatehpur Sikri area. Additionally, if the Detailed Project Report (DPR) is prepared on time, plans for constructing a rubber dam in the city will be implemented.
CM Yogi compared global conditions with India’s progress, noting the devastation and severe inflation in many parts of the world due to wars. He pointed out that petrol prices have quadrupled in countries like the USA, while neighboring Pakistan is in complete turmoil. However, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, India is rapidly advancing on the path of development. The government has reduced excise duties to control inflation, and India is now seen as a leader globally.
He stated that the abrogation of Article 370 has dealt a final blow to terrorism, and efforts are underway to eradicate Naxalism and Maoism. Criticizing previous governments, he mentioned that mafias were once protected, but the double-engine government has eliminated them. The cultural heritage of Ayodhya, Mathura, and Sambhal has been restored. The Chief Minister urged the public to unite for the glory of Sanatan and promised to return soon for the inauguration of the Chhatrapati Shivaji Memorial, Museum, and the second phase of the metro in Agra.
