Kolkata, August 3: Chandra Kumar Bose, the grandson of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, resigned from the Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Monday. He had joined the party just four months ago.
In a letter addressed to TMC chief Mamata Banerjee, Bose cited personal reasons for his departure. He stated, “I am resigning from the primary membership of All India Trinamool Congress with immediate effect. I wish you and AITC all the best in your future endeavors.”
Bose was officially welcomed into the party on April 12, ahead of the state assembly elections. He had switched from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to join Mamata Banerjee’s leadership, previously labeling his decision to join the BJP as a ‘mistake.’
His discontent with the BJP grew after he was summoned for a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) hearing. Bose expressed his astonishment over doubts regarding his citizenship, despite being the grandson of the freedom fighter Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose.
Following a change in government, the TMC has faced internal strife, with many members aligning with rebel legislators led by opposition leader Ritabrata Banerjee. Former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee now leads a core but minority faction of the TMC.
Rather than aligning with any faction, Chandra Kumar Bose opted to resign from the party. He had previously joined the BJP during a rally in Howrah in 2016, in the presence of prominent leader Amit Shah.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Bose contested as the BJP candidate from the Kolkata South constituency but lost to TMC candidate Mala Roy. After the Lok Sabha elections, he distanced himself from the BJP.
Since the 2021 assembly elections, Chandra Bose has remained inactive in politics and has not participated in any party activities.
