Pune, August 3: Manipur’s Deputy Chief Minister, Loci Dikho, emphasized the Northeast region as a vital part of India’s heritage. He noted that this area is rich in traditions, vibrant cultures, immense talent, and vast potential, significantly contributing to the nation’s growth and progress.
Dikho laid the foundation stone for the ‘Swargiya Jamnabai Phirodia North East India Bhavan – Rani Gaidinliu Girls Hostel’ in Katraj, Pune, with an investment of approximately ₹10 crore. He stated that the Northeast plays a crucial role in strengthening the unity and integrity of the country through its rich cultural diversity, unique lifestyle, and historical heritage.
A senior leader of the Naga tribal community, Dikho remarked that this project represents more than just constructing a building. It symbolizes the collective commitment of the nation to support students and youth from all parts of India.
He stated, “This project reflects our shared commitment to support the youth from every part of the country. As India moves towards the vision of a ‘Developed India’, every young person, regardless of their origin, should have equal access to quality education and opportunities.”
Describing the proposed building as a ‘home away from home’ for students from the Northeast, Dikho highlighted that it will provide a safe and conducive environment, aiding students in achieving higher education while promoting their personal growth, confidence, and long-term success.
He mentioned that this hostel will serve as a permanent residence for Manipuri students studying in Pune, offering them a supportive environment where they can focus on their studies without the challenges of finding suitable accommodation.
The Deputy Chief Minister reiterated that the Manipur government will continue to support initiatives that empower youth and enhance educational opportunities for students from the Northeast, enabling them to realize their full potential and contribute to the country’s development.
A senior official noted that the proposed hostel, expected to be completed in one and a half years, will also play a significant role in promoting harmony, mutual understanding, and social interaction among various communities from Manipur and the Northeast region.
The official added that students from diverse backgrounds, ethnic communities, and states will live, study, and interact under one roof. This will foster a sense of unity, cultural exchange, and national integrity, strengthening relationships among the youth in the region.
