Ahmedabad, December 7: The grand Varni Amrit Mahotsav of BAPS (Bochasanwasi Shri Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha) commenced in Ahmedabad on Sunday. The event marks the 75th anniversary of the appointment of the prominent Swami Maharaj as the president of BAPS.
Devotees from across India and abroad gathered in large numbers for the celebration. The journey of BAPS, which started from Ambli Vali Pol in Shahpur, Ahmedabad, has now extended to all major continents of the world. The organization’s temples are established globally as centers of spirituality, peace, and service. Many devotees from various countries expressed their devotion to the esteemed Swami Maharaj during the event.
A BAPS volunteer shared, “In 1950, Swami Maharaj was appointed as the president of the organization at Ambli Vali Pol in Shahpur, Ahmedabad. This historic event completes 75 years, which is why the grand Varni Amrit Mahotsav is being held.”
The volunteer added that Swami Maharaj dedicated his life to outstanding social, spiritual, and global service. Currently, Mahant Swami Maharaj continues to carry forward this legacy with devotion.
He further explained that the main message of the mahotsav is to inspire everyone to follow the path of service and human welfare, motivated by Swami Maharaj’s sacrifice, compassion, and selfless service. The festival also highlighted the glory and ideal qualities of saints. Preparations for the event had been underway for the past three months, involving over 100 saints and nearly seven thousand volunteers.
One devotee said that the 75th anniversary of Swami Maharaj’s appointment as BAPS president is being commemorated with 75 tableaux. These displays illustrate different virtues of Swami Maharaj’s life, inspired by the teachings of the four scriptures. Each tableau represents an aspect of his penance, sacrifice, discipline, service, or compassion.
BAPS’s revered Vivekjivan Swami stated that the theme of the mahotsav, ‘From Ambli Vali Pol to Akshardham,’ symbolizes Swami Maharaj’s spiritual journey. He mentioned that on May 21, 1950, at the age of 28, Shastriji Maharaj appointed him as the president of BAPS at the small location of Ambli Vali Pol. Later, in 1971, he became the guru of the organization and spread the message of spirituality and service worldwide.
