Delhi Assembly Speaker Invites Youth to Engage in Politics

New Delhi, September 8 (Daily Kiran) : Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta urged young people on Tuesday to not just observe politics from a distance but to actively participate in shaping a ‘developed India.’ Speaking during a youth outreach program, he emphasized the importance of youth involvement in democracy while interacting with students from various colleges of Delhi University.

Gupta encouraged the students to move beyond being mere spectators of political and democratic processes. He called on them to contribute actively to public life, governance, and nation-building.

As part of the youth outreach initiative, students from Capital College, Shyama Prasad Mukherjee College, Law Centre-1, and Shivaji College visited the Delhi Assembly. They engaged in discussions with Gupta about parliamentary procedures, democratic participation, and the role of the Speaker in maintaining the smooth functioning of the house.

Responding to a question about his journey from Leader of the Opposition to Speaker, Gupta described his experience as challenging. However, he noted that it strengthened his resolve to ensure every member of the assembly has a fair and meaningful opportunity to speak.

He highlighted that his past experiences have influenced his approach to conducting assembly proceedings. Gupta stressed that all members, regardless of their political affiliation, should have a platform to express their views. He is committed to ensuring that parliamentary rules and procedures allow for every voice to be heard.

To maintain greater transparency and discipline during sessions, Gupta mentioned the implementation of a timer displayed on screens within the assembly chamber. This feature allows members to see how much time they have, aiding in the orderly and timely conduct of proceedings.

During their visit, students enjoyed a guided tour of the historic Delhi Assembly complex, learning about its stunning architecture and institutional heritage. They were informed about the building’s historical connections to the Central Legislative Assembly and significant parliamentary figures and events associated with its legacy.
