Congress Accuses AAP of Fostering Chaos and Criminal Ties in Punjab

New Delhi, September 8 (Daily Kiran) : The Congress party has accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) of creating chaos in Punjab and failing to tackle the drug crisis while capitulating to gangsters. During a press conference, Pratap Singh Bajwa, the leader of the Congress legislative party in Punjab, called for the resignation of state Finance Minister Harpal Cheema. This demand follows allegations that a Dalit man blamed Cheema for his death in a statement made before passing away.

Bajwa asserted that AAP has resorted to using the “carrot and stick” policy to secure electoral victories. He emphasized that, despite their efforts, AAP will never win elections in Punjab again, claiming their 2022 victory was a one-time occurrence.

He criticized AAP’s “war on drugs” campaign, questioning how the party could claim success when they have not even managed to help their own Chief Minister, Bhagwant Mann, abstain from alcohol. Bajwa recalled an incident where Mann entered the Punjab Assembly while intoxicated and refused to take a breathalyzer test.

Furthermore, Bajwa highlighted the party’s controversial association with notorious gangster Gurpreet Sekhon, who faces 47 criminal charges, including involvement in the infamous Nabha jailbreak and multiple murders. He noted that Sekhon was convicted and sentenced to ten years, but the Punjab and Haryana High Court stayed his sentence. Bajwa alleged that AAP plans to field Sekhon as a candidate from the Zira constituency, where they already have an incumbent legislator.

He also referenced another infamous gangster, Jaggu Bhagwanpuria, who, despite being imprisoned in Assam, continues to operate in Punjab. Bajwa expressed disbelief that Bhagwanpuria could make phone calls from a BJP-ruled state’s jail.

The Congress leader concluded by stating that the alliance between AAP and criminals is becoming increasingly apparent, warning that the culture of gangsters and drug addiction poses two significant threats to Punjab.
