New Delhi, August 21: Ajay Tamta, the Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways, visited the Nammo Bharat Corridor connecting Delhi, Ghaziabad, and Meerut on Friday. During his visit, he assessed the modern regional transport system and the facilities provided to passengers, as well as the connectivity between various modes of transport and the advanced technologies employed in operations.
Tamta highlighted the Nammo Bharat Corridor as a significant initiative for regional connectivity, smooth traffic flow, and sustainable public transport. His tour commenced at the Sarai Kale Khan Nammo Bharat Station, where he was welcomed by a delegation of officials led by the NCRTC Director (Works).
Officials provided detailed insights into the 82-kilometer-long Nammo Bharat Corridor, including its advanced technology, station facilities, various ticketing options, and interoperability models. They also showcased the multi-modal transport integration at the Sarai Kale Khan station.
Efforts are underway to connect the station with different public transport modes to facilitate easy transfers for passengers. Additionally, the minister was informed about a foot overbridge linking the Sarai Kale Khan Nammo Bharat Station with Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station. A travellator has been installed on this bridge to enhance interchange convenience between the two stations.
Following this, Ajay Tamta traveled from Sarai Kale Khan to Muradnagar on India’s first Nammo Bharat train. During the journey, he experienced the modern passenger amenities available on board and interacted directly with travelers. College students shared that their daily commutes have become faster and more convenient with the Nammo Bharat train, significantly saving travel time. They also expressed interest in the future developments of the Nammo Bharat Corridor.
During the visit, NCRTC officials noted that the Nammo Bharat Corridor plays a crucial role in addressing regional transport challenges. It helps reduce road traffic pressure, minimizes congestion, and controls pollution from vehicles. Furthermore, it encourages the public to adopt faster, safer, and sustainable public transport over private vehicles.
The minister also inquired about the potential extension of the existing corridor to Rishikesh in Uttarakhand. Tamta visited the NCRTC depot located in Duhai, Ghaziabad, where he observed the arrangements for the maintenance, inspection, testing, and upkeep of Nammo Bharat trains.
Officials explained that various modern systems and processes are utilized at the depot to ensure safe and reliable train operations. During this visit, the minister also participated in a tree-planting initiative and inspected the train driving simulator, where he was shown a simulation-based modern training system. He toured the NCRTC’s Center of Excellence, ‘Aparimit,’ which employs cutting-edge technologies like augmented reality, virtual reality, and simulators.
He was also given a virtual walkthrough of the Nammo Bharat station. Officials shared information about the digital technologies used for training, operational efficiency, and research and development. Throughout his visit, the state minister praised NCRTC’s efforts to enhance passenger convenience, improve accessibility, and develop an inclusive public transport system.
He noted that the Nammo Bharat system significantly contributes to making travel easier and better for over 100,000 passengers daily. It is not just a transport mode providing fast connectivity between Delhi, Ghaziabad, and Meerut, but also a vital infrastructure that accelerates the economic and social development of the region.
It is noteworthy that on February 22, 2026, Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated the entire Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Nammo Bharat Corridor to the nation. The complete corridor is seen as a significant transformation in the country’s urban and regional transport network, promoting fast, safe, and convenient travel between Delhi, Ghaziabad, and Meerut.
