Government Focuses on Strengthening Rural Economy, Promoting Horticulture and Natural Farming: CM Sukhu

Shimla, June 23: Chief Minister Sukhuinder Singh Sukhu stated that the state government is actively working to empower the rural economy. To enhance the income of farmers and rural residents, several concrete measures have been implemented, with a special emphasis on promoting natural farming.

During a review meeting on tribal development and horticulture departments held late Monday evening, CM Sukhu announced that the state government is providing a Minimum Support Price (MSP) to encourage chemical-free agricultural products. He assured that the horticulture department would receive all possible support to maximize benefits for farmers and ensure effective implementation of various schemes, including filling vacant positions within the department.

Reviewing the progress of the HP-Shiva project, he emphasized the need for diversifying fruit varieties according to the geographical and climatic conditions of different regions in the state. He remarked that horticulture is the backbone of Himachal Pradesh’s economy and that technical assistance should be provided to enhance the income of horticulturists.

While assessing the plans of the tribal development department, CM Sukhu directed officials to expedite their implementation. He noted that between March 2023 and March 2026, 636 individual and 20 community claims have been approved under the Forest Rights Act of 2006, with 2,259.24 hectares of land transferred for these claims.

The Chief Minister also reviewed the operations of the Eklavya Model Residential Schools located in Nichar, Pangi, Bharmour, and Lahaul. He instructed officials to ensure better education and facilities for students, currently numbering 1,013 in these schools.

The meeting was attended by Horticulture and Tribal Development Minister Jagat Singh Negi, Additional Chief Secretary Omkar Sharma, Secretary C. Palrasu, and other senior officials.
