New Delhi, June 13: The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) held an interactive conference with food business operators in Shimla on June 9. This initiative aims to strengthen stakeholder participation and ensure better compliance with food safety regulations.
The session included food manufacturers, processors, traders, and startups from Himachal Pradesh, Chandigarh, and Punjab. Participants discussed regulatory requirements, addressed operational challenges, and raised awareness about food safety compliance.
Devesh Kumar Mahla, Director of the FSSAI’s Northern Regional Office, emphasized the authority’s commitment to promoting ‘Ease of Doing Business’ for compliant food businesses. He assured that there would be no compromise on food safety standards, stating that FSSAI is not just a regulator but also a partner in developing a safe and responsible food ecosystem.
Key issues faced by food business operators, such as licensing, product approval, and import procedures, were highlighted during the discussion. Participants received guidance on expediting the licensing application process by responding promptly to documentation and regulatory requirements. Information was also provided on the product approval process, proprietary food regulations, and procedures related to imported food consignments. Questions regarding license renewal and the FSSAI portal were addressed during the session.
Food business operators welcomed the opportunity for direct dialogue with the regulator. They noted that such discussions help in better understanding regulatory needs and resolving compliance concerns in a timely manner. It was announced that these interactions would occur quarterly, with the next session expected to focus on audits related to compliance and food safety management systems.
To enhance engagement with stakeholders, food business operators were advised to send specific questions, licensing complaints, or product approval queries directly to the Director’s official email address.
