Tirupati, August 24: Former Chairman of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), Bhuma Karunakara Reddy, has alleged that TTD vigilance, police, and administration are colluding to conceal a significant alcohol and gutkha racket operating on the sacred Tirumala Hills.
Speaking to the media, the YSR Congress Party leader demanded the immediate release of CCTV footage and phone location records to uncover the truth.
Reddy claimed that on August 21, between 7:30 PM and 8:00 PM, a person named Eega Ramu was caught supplying 182 quarter bottles of alcohol to another individual named Balaji near the Kaustubham Guest House. Separately, Eega Priya was apprehended with thousands of gutkha packets near Nagatirtham. Although both were caught on the Tirumala Hills, the FIR indicated they were arrested the following morning at the Alipiri link bus stand.
He questioned why the location of the incident was altered in the FIR, alleging that the actual recovery made in Tirumala was deliberately concealed.
Reddy insisted on the release of CCTV footage from the Kaustubham Guest House, Nagatirtham, and Alipiri link bus stand, as well as the phone locations of SI Srivani and Eega Ramu during the relevant time.
He further inquired why the FIR specifically detailed the caste of the accused and demanded clarification from the authorities.
Reddy claimed that approximately 1,000 quarter bottles of alcohol arrive in Tirumala daily, which are purchased outside for around 120 rupees but sold on the hills for 350 to 500 rupees. He called for a thorough investigation into who is operating this racket and who is protecting it.
He stated that if TTD Chairman B.R. Naidu possesses courage and integrity, he should release the CCTV footage, phone locations, and records instead of issuing statements. The evidence would clarify where the individuals were actually caught and why the facts were altered in the FIR.
