Vadodara, August 24: The Gujarat Police‘s State Monitoring Cell (SMC) conducted a raid on Sunday in Vadodara, targeting alleged liquor ‘cutting’ (adulteration/repacking) activities. They seized Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) and beer valued at ₹84.01 lakh. The total worth of the confiscated items exceeds ₹1 crore.
Acting on the directives of Director General of Police (DGP) G.S. Malik, Police Inspector M.K. Malviya led the SMC team to a parking area behind Neelkanth Villa flats on New Karelibaug Road in Khodiyar Nagar.
This operation was part of the state’s crackdown on illegal liquor and gambling activities. The team recovered approximately 470 boxes containing 16,394 bottles of IMFL and beer, valued at ₹84,01,258.
According to the SMC, three four-wheelers, one two-wheeler, and other items were also confiscated, bringing the total value of the seized goods to ₹1,00,21,258.
A case has been registered at the Bapod police station under the Prohibition Act. The police have identified seven wanted suspects, including Nilesh alias Neelu Nathani from Bapod and the owners of all the vehicles involved.
Other suspects include an individual who allegedly fled during the liquor unloading and another accused of sending the shipment. This seizure is part of a larger trend of significant liquor confiscations in Gujarat this month.
On August 16, Ahmedabad Rural Police seized 7,164 bottles of IMFL worth ₹26.81 lakh from a truck at the Bagodara toll plaza and arrested the driver. Authorities are also tracking the alleged supplier and the individual who received the liquor. On August 13, the SMC confiscated around 31,836 bottles of IMFL and beer valued at approximately ₹1.20 crore near the Budhanpur toll plaza in Vav-Tharad, with the total worth of seized items reported at around ₹1.32 crore.
